Dear Yalies,

Thanks to those of you who volunteered for the inaugural Yale Day of Service. Almost 600 alumni (and guests) participated in one of the 17 volunteer activities in New York City. All our partner organizations greatly appreciated both the opportunity to meet Yale alumni and the contribution made by alumni volunteers. Together we made a tremendous impact in New York City communities and demonstrated the spirit of Yale's longstanding tradition of public service. An extra big thanks to Ceu Martinez and Amanda Taffy, co-chairs of YAAMNY's Public Service and Social Justice Committee, for their leadership pulling together all the pieces. And congratulations to the following winners of the prize drawing:

- Aaron Shipp '96 * an iPod Shuffle (donated by YAAMNY)
- Linda Kofsky '75 * one free night at the Yale Club of New York City, including breakfast (donated by the Yale Club of New York City)
- Clark Jackson '97 MFA * a dinner for two at Bay Leaf Indian Brasserie(donated by Uday Gupta, Yale SOM '08)

As June approaches, we want to give you a heads up on several exciting events: a talk on June 4 with Yale University Press Author Joshua Shannon on New York Art and the Rise of the Postmodern City and another talk on June 6 with James Leve on Kander & Ebb, the Duo Behind Cabaret and Chicago. Then on June 18 there will be a talk with filmmaker Lloyd Kaufman '69 on how to succeed in independent cinema. Kaufman helped launch the careers of Hollywood stars such as Kevin Costner, Samuel L. Jackson, Oliver Stone, Marisa Tomei, Robert DeNiro, and Carmen Electra, who had their first start in Kaufman's films.

These events all include a reception with an opportunity to meet and network with other Yale alumni. They all have limited capacity, so be sure to click on the respective Eventbrite links below to secure your seat before tickets sell out.

Also, for those who run in NYC, YAAMNY recently started an alumni running group to get Yalies together for group runs and to train for select races, including the Iceland Marathon and Half-marathon this August. Feel free to join the group on Facebook to get updates on group runs and more information for the trip. Already 15 alumni have expressed interest in joining the trip, and we welcome runners of all levels to join as well.

See you soon at an upcoming event or for an alumni group run!
