Jenifer Grant the daughter of the founders of Hospital Albert Schweitzer, Gwen Grant Mellon and Dr. Larimer Mellon.  She has been involved with Hospital Albert Schweitzer, which is located 60 miles (2 hours) outside of Port au Prince,  since its doors opened on June 26, 1956.  After a career of teaching middle school students, including 7 years in New Haven at The Foote School, she is now retired and has even more time to devote to HAS.  She is a member of the board of directors.  Not being medical, she has found a niche in the horticultural aspects of the HAS campus and contiguous areas.  She travels to Haiti and Hospital Albert Schweitzer about 4 times a year for a week or two. Her talk will focus on the founding of the hospital by two very remarkable people, how the hospital has evolved into more than a hospital with extensive Community Health and Community Development activities. She will explain the effects of the earthquake on the hospital and how HAS will be affected in both the near and farther future by this catastrophe.
