The Public Service/Social Justice Committee of the YALE ALUMNI ASSOCIATION OF METROPOLITAN NEW YORK is proud to co-sponsor the first PortSide NewYork Benefit. PortSide was one of the New York sites for the global Yale Day of Service (May 16, 2009) whereby volunteers thoroughly enjoyed a successful restoration project on the Mary A. Whalen, a 172 foot repurposed coastal oil tanker. This ship has become the temporary headquarters of PortSide NewYork with one of the founders actually residing on it full time. The dedication of the founders and friends of this site was truly inspirational and the Yale volunteers stayed well beyond the scheduled time to complete additional tasks. The ship is a labor of love, and its spectacular views of Governor's Island, the southern part of Manhattan and various bridges made working outside all the more enjoyable. PortSide NewYork is a non-profit organization advancing a new vision for revitalizing New York City's waterfront, which includes the creation of sustainable waterfront planning and the fostering of the greenest forms of waterborne transportation, while also delivering educational, cultural, and recreational waterfront experiences in community-oriented ways. Yalies involved in this innovative, young organization include: Carolina Salguero '82, Director of PortSide NewYork, Elaine Carmichael '82, Board Member, and Daniel Goncharoff '82, Advisory Board Member For Yalies and their guests who attend the benefit, PortSide NewYork has graciously offered to provide a free boat tour to be scheduled later in the summer. Come out and support fellow Yalies in their efforts to improve the city and country we inhabit. Tickets $50 Additional Info/Contact: Dan Goncharoff at 732.610.9023 or Amanda at This email address is hidden from email harvesters via JavaScript |
