Hope you had a great July 4th holiday weekend. Now that it finally feels like summer in NY (and the frequent rain showers of June have stopped), we have organized a wide variety for events for you, including the following:

Yale Entrepreneurs Reception

LOOKING FOR 40 GREAT VOLUNTEERS TO BEAUTIFY LA PLAZA CULTURAL COMMUNITY GARDEN

The Public Service/Social Justice Committee of the Yale Alumni Association of Metropolitan New York is proud to return to La Plaza Cultural Community Garden (one of the sites from the Yale Day of Service), where volunteers throughly enjoyed beautifying this gem in the East Village.

We are now looking for 40 energetic volunteers to complete the work started by YALIES on the Day of Service last month. Afterwards, volunteers will enjoy a barbeque at the garden. Children and Families Welcome!

Join Ms. Cole for an intimate after-hours discussion at Greene Contemporary art gallery in the Lower East Side, where Ms. Cole's work is currently showing, followed by complimentary cocktails and hors d'eouvres at nearby winebar Salt.

Enjoy an exploration of the work on display and an open discussion of the motives and themes at play in the world of art today. What does it mean to be an artist today? What role does inspiration play, and how much work does it take? What is happening in the contemporary art world in New York City at this critical moment in time?

Ms. Cole has served as a full-time faculty member at the School of Visual Arts at Boston University, where she taught both in Boston and in Venice, Italy. She has exhibited internationally and held artist fellowships at the Ucross Foundation and the Helene Wurlitzer Foundation. Since getting her start through a Sudler Grant while a student at Yale, she has received numerous honors for her work around the world, most recently as a finalist for the Guasch Coranty Foundation International Painting Prize in Barcelona.

We have many exciting projects and prospects as we try to build on the momentum we gained from the Yale Day of Service in May. Additionally, our social justice/juvenile justice project in collaboration with the very progressive Mayor Booker of Newark is currently underway and a preliminary task force has been formed. Our hope is to build a team of volunteers from diverse professions that will help transform Newark's Juvenile Justice System so that children have the opportunity to develop to their fullest potential.
