October Greetings from YAAMNY

Dear fellow alumni:

Happy autumn!

As YAAMNY continues to provide a variety of events -- from educational programs to career networking opportunities to public service/volunteer activities to artistic/cultural and social events -- we welcome your ideas and suggestions. For example, in response to alumni expressing interest in more sporting events, we will add more of these in coming months.

One new event we're planning is an NYC Marathon Watching Party on November 1st to support Yalies who will be running in the race. If you or an alumnus/a you know (whether based in NYC or coming from elsewhere) will be running in the race this year, please email me ( This email address is hidden from email harvesters via JavaScript ) with your/his/her name and contact information so that we can plan an event to support you. Alternatively, if you won't be running in the race but have a place to host the party (preferably located near the course path), let me know. It'd be fun to cheer for fellow alumni as they run through the race course!

On the topic of marathons, the group of Yale alumni who went to Iceland in August to run in the marathon, half marathon and 10K races had a fabulous time. If you're interested in joining the steering committee to help pick a destination (we are considering races in Asia) and plan for the alumni trip in 2010, please contact me by October 10. Here's a link to photos from the trip: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=80553446143.

Then mark your calendar for a Yale-Harvard Game Tailgate for Yalies from NYC on November 21 (details coming soon)! If you're interested in organizing this or other Yale sports events (e.g., Yale vs. Columbia games in NYC), email Mike Jacobs at This email address is hidden from email harvesters via JavaScript .

These events are made possible through the time and energy contributed by active board and committee members. We would like to welcome the newest member of the YAAMNY board: Andrew Burgie '87, Co-chair of the Public Service/Social Justice Committee, who's been leading three Prospect Park projects. Andrew understands the importance of both short-term and long-term public service activities, as well as sustainable efforts on the social justice front, and we are delighted to have his leadership on this committee.

We look forward to hearing from you soon with suggestions for future events and seeing you soon at one!

Best regards,
My

My Luu '96
YAAMNY President
