FELA! on Broadway
Enter the extravagant, decadent, rebellious world of a legendary musician. A provocative hybrid of dance and Broadway musical, FELA! features the Afrobeat music of Fela Anikulapo Kuti, a book by Jim Lewis and the direction and choreography of Tony Award winner Bill T. Jones.

His Passion Ignited a Generation.
His Music Fueled a Revolution.
His Legacy Inspires the World.

FELA! uses stirring Afrobeat music (a blend of jazz, funk and African rhythm and harmonies), to tell the story of Kuti's controversial life as artist, political activist and revolutionary musician. Featuring many of Fela Kuti's most captivating songs and Bill T. Jones's visionary staging, FELA! is the most original new musical on Broadway. Come for the music. Come for the dancing. Come awaken your soul.

Special thanks to producer Stephen Hendel '73!

On this day, thousands of Yale Alumni, family members and friends will gather to volunteer for meaningful events and projects ranging from the labor intensive (sprucing up parks, planting gardens & painting) to the more intellectually stimulating (reading books to children, assisting with job applications & college applications and tutoring) throughout the New York City Area and around the globe.  During the first global Yale Day of Service (2009), we had the pleasure of helping over 500 Yale Alumni & their family & friends serve at approximately 20 sites throughout the area.

Among the possible activities are park clean-up activities, tutoring, planting gardens, teaching tennis, various walks and assisting with job and college applications. This year we have added more sites including additional child-friendly sites, we have a broader range of activities and have activities on various dates throughout the month of May to allow alumni to participate on the day that best suits them.  Our first event as part of this year's Day of Service, at the Harlem Junior Tennis and Education Program, was very well attended with 26 volunteers and 50 children. Mayor Dinkins gave an inspirational introductory speech at this event. It was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
