Yale Athletics Leads Nation with 28 NCAA Public Recognition Awards Again

Yale had 28 teams honored by the NCAA with Public Recognition Awards for high Academic Progress Rate scores Thursday, four more than any other school in the country. This is the third year in a row Yale has led the nation in teams recognized for high APR scores.

Last year Yale also led the nation with 28 Public Recognition Awards, four more than any other school. In 2006 26 of Yale's 29 teams that were eligible to be rated had APR scores in the top 10 percent.

This year a total of 712 teams across 192 Division I institutions were honored with the awards, which are given to those teams whose multi-year APR scores are in the top 10 percent of all squads in their respective sports. The Ivy League was the Division I conference with the largest number of high-performing squads, with 150 teams receiving awards this year. Yale (28 teams) was followed by Dartmouth (24), Brown (21), Penn (20), Princeton (19), Harvard (18), Cornell (11) and Columbia (9).

The Academic Progress Rate measures semester-by-semester progress toward graduation of every individual team in Division I and includes eligibility, retention and graduation as factors. The APR awards two points each term to student-athletes who meet academic eligibility standards and who remain with the institution. A team's APR is the total points earned by the team at a given time divided by the total points possible, multiplied by 1,000. It includes four years. Multi-year APR scores for all Division I sports teams, including the teams receiving public recognition awards, will be announced May 6.

Yale's 28 Public Recognition Award recipients are:
