As part of the Fellowship, the Fellows will be participating in dinner forums which consist of (a) each Fellow doing presentations of their respective countries; (b) informal meals; and (c) discussions between the Fellows and other participants. We are seeking up to three alumni to participate in each forum. In particular we are looking for alumni participants who have worked or who are interested in working with international organizations, or who have a general interest in international affairs.

The Public Service/Social Justice Committee of the YALE ALUMNI ASSOCIATION OF METROPOLITAN NEW YORK is proud to partner with the Yale Club of New York City and the Association of Yale Alumni to sponsor the Second Annual YALE DAY OF SERVICE, on May 15, 2010 (or for certain specified events May 1, May 7, May 16 or May 22 - please click on the Day of Service link below for more details).

On this day, thousands of Yale Alumni, family members and friends will gather to volunteer for meaningful events and projects ranging from the labor intensive (sprucing up parks, planting gardens & painting) to the more intellectually stimulating (reading books to children, assisting with job applications & college applications and tutoring) throughout the New York City Area and around the globe. During the first global Yale Day of Service (2009), we had the pleasure of helping over 500 Yale Alumni & their family & friends serve at approximately 20 sites throughout the area.

Among the possible activities are park clean-up activities, tutoring, planting gardens, teaching tennis, various walks and assisting with job and college applications. This year we have added more sites including additional child-friendly sites, we have a broader range of activities and have activities on various dates throughout the month of May to allow alumni to participate on the day that best suits them. Our first event as part of this year's Day of Service, at the Harlem Junior Tennis and Education Program, was very well attended with 26 volunteers and 50 children. Mayor Dinkins gave an inspirational introductory speech at this event. It was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

UPWARDLY GLOBAL is a great organization that helps highly-skilled immigrants and refugees reclaim their careers here in the US. Come join other Yale Alumni to conduct MOCK INTERVIEW SESSIONS, which can help talented immigrant professionals overcome barriers to entering the American labor market. More info about this organization can be found at: http://www.upwardlyglobal.org/.

We are looking for 15 to 20 volunteers to work together in this worthy cause.

The Public Service/Social Justice Committee of the YALE ALUMNI ASSOCIATION OF METROPOLITAN NEW YORK is proud to honor Dr. King's legacy by serving fellow New Yorkers at this Soup Kitchen during winter. We are looking for 15 volunteers to help serve food & drinks to approximately 700 patrons and to assist in the cleaning process.

We are pleased to have ASTRID ANDRE '94 serve as Team Leader for this site. For more info, please contact Amanda Taffy at [email address hidden].

Born on January 15, 1929, Dr. King led one of the most successful non-violent civil rights movements in history. In addition to being the youngest recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964 for his advancement of human rights, Dr. King was a beloved husband and father. An excerpt from Dr. King's acceptance speech of the Nobel Peace Prize follows:
"I accept this award today with an abiding faith in America and an audacious faith in the future of mankind. I refuse to accept despair as the final response to the ambiguities of history. I refuse to accept the idea that the "isness" of man's present nature makes him morally incapable of reaching up for the eternal "oughtness" that forever confronts him. I refuse to accept the idea that man is mere flotsom and jetsom in the river of life, unable to influence the unfolding events which surround him. I refuse to accept the view that mankind is so tragically bound to the starless midnight of racism and war that the bright daybreak of peace and brotherhood can never become a reality. I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word in reality. This is why right temporarily defeated is stronger than evil triumphant. "
