Welcome to the mid-April edition of the YAAMNY newsletter!

YAAMNY is pleased to invite you to participate in the Yale Day of Service. This world-wide event, organized by the Association of Yale Alumni (AYA) in collaboration with local alumni groups and clubs, brings Yalies together every May for service projects in their communities.  Like to do art with kids? To garden? To help with job interview and career planning? These are just a few of the possibilities. We are delighted to announce that former Mayor David Dinkins will give the introductory remarks at the Harlem Junior Tennis and Education site.  Register now and make a difference in your community.

YAAMNY has a new committee dedicated to development.  Think roof-top parties, holiday fetes and the like.  We are a volunteer-run nonprofit, don't charge dues, and are looking for volunteers who want to have fun - and help us raise funds in the process.  For further details, see here or email Anne Moss at This email address is hidden from email harvesters via JavaScript .

For the travelers and/or runners among you, YAAMNY is organizing another alumni trip -- this time to the Czech Republic and Poland --- for the August 15 marathon/half-marathon in Gdansk. Last year, alumni of Yale College and Yale professional schools from 4 different cities traveled to Iceland and had a fabulous time. See below for more information and email My at This email address is hidden from email harvesters via JavaScript  if you're interested in joining this trip.

Happy spring,

The Public Service/Social Justice Committee of the YALE ALUMNI ASSOCIATION OF METROPOLITAN NEW YORK is proud to partner with the Yale Club of New York City and the Association of Yale Alumni to sponsor the Second Annual YALE DAY OF SERVICE, on May 15, 2010 (or for certain specified events May 1, May 7, May 16 or May 22 - please click on the Day of Service link below for more details).

On this day, thousands of Yale Alumni, family members and friends will gather to volunteer for meaningful events and projects ranging from the labor intensive (sprucing up parks, planting gardens & painting) to the more intellectually stimulating (reading books to children, assisting with job applications & college applications and tutoring) throughout the New York City Area and around the globe.  During the first global Yale Day of Service (2009), we had the pleasure of helping over 500 Yale Alumni & their family & friends serve at approximately 20 sites throughout the area.

Among the possible activities are park clean-up activities, tutoring, planting gardens, teaching tennis, various walks and assisting with job and college applications. This year we have added more sites including additional child-friendly sites, we have a broader range of activities and have activities on various dates throughout the month of May to allow alumni to participate on the day that best suits them.  Our first event as part of this year's Day of Service, at the Harlem Junior Tennis and Education Program, was very well attended with 26 volunteers and 50 children. Mayor Dinkins gave an inspirational introductory speech at this event. It was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
