            <description><![CDATA[<p><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse:collapse;font-family:arial;font-size:13px;line-height:normal;">Your Place Youth Center was started by an association of local churches and youth in the Newhallville neighborhood as a response to the gang violence that had disrupted lives and families as several young teenagers were killed. Volunteers are needed to assist in mentoring New Haven youths who seek to respond peacefully and also creative ways to channel their time and energy --- music, sports, academics -- what programs you want to start and participate in are flexible! <p style="margin-bottom:0in;"> </p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0in;"><span style="font-family:Arial, 'sans-serif';color:#000000;">Summer Buds and Dwight Hall have begun the hunt for a new <b>Summer Buds Coordinator</b>. </span></p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0in;"><span style="font-family:Arial, 'sans-serif';color:#000000;">Summer Buds is a tutoring program for New Haven elementary school kids that runs June and July which pairs them one on one with Yale students in New Haven over the summer. It's an amazing chance to change these kids attitudes to education and school general, fostering a love of reading while improving their literacy skills. The position involves creating and running this amazing program, teaching, mentoring, management skills, self-initiative, field trips, and a place in the Yale summer community. The position is also historically tied to the <b>Dwight Hall Fellow</b> which entails free use of the cars, photocopier, free dinner once a week, and a $3000 stipend. </span></p>

Initiated in 1968, the Dwight Hall Summer Fellowship Program is an eight-week, paid program for ten Yale undergraduates who propose projects designed to address community needs. The fellows typically work with established non-profit organizations or civic groups to craft and execute their projects. During the summer the fellows gather for weekly dinners to meet with community leaders, discuss the broader context of their work, and reflect on the progress of their proposed goals.<br />
