A truck's air conditioning system works on the same principle as the central air or window unit in your home. It's the same principle that makes your refrigerator work too. The AC transfers heat from inside an enclosed space to the outside air via coolant that flows in a closed loop. Although it has the same name, this coolant isn't related to the fluid that keeps your engine from overheating. As the coolant expands into a gas, it rapidly cools, chilling the evaporator coil array. Fans send the cold air into your truck's cab. The compressor then forces the gas back into liquid form so the cycle can begin again.

If your system is topped off with coolant and its coils are clean, the AC transfers heat efficiently, drawing less power from your engine. Cradle-to-cradle waste management is also known as closed loop waste management. This basically means that all materials, such as: plastic, metal, paper or even food are recycled. During the summer, exertion and heat contributes to dehydration, which in turn leaves you prone to heat illness in the form of cramping, heat exhaustion and dangerous heatstroke. Dr. Michael Shevlin, a Meridian, Idaho, orthopedic doctor and avid summer sports enthusiast, emphasizes the need to watch for the signs of heat illness and combat them before they worsen. "Muscle cramps and dizziness are your body's way of telling you to take a break, drink some water and stretch," he says. "Pay attention to those signals and rest when necessary."

"When you need your truck to pull a stump or tow a horse trailer, you'll be glad you picked something with enough power to do the job," he says. "Diesel maintenance takes a little more effort, but it pays off in reliability and power."

Burlingame recommends regular maintenance visits for diesel engines. "Every engine needs occasional maintenance, but because diesel engines are made with precision parts, they should be inspected frequently. CPI Research Associates will work with the Executive Director and CPI Fellows to draft policy papers on issues relevant to Connecticut.  Research Associates will also monitor Connecticut newspapers, journals, and blogs for articles related to Connecticut politics, policy, and government.  These articles will be reposted on the Institutes website, which will serve as an information gateway for citizens looking to stay engaged with Connecticut politics, policy, and government.   Research Associate is an in-house, part-time, paid staff position.

Ms. Eidelson is a Pennsylvania native and rising senior at Yale, where she has been a driving force behind a number of diverse initiatives to strengthen democracy and further economic justice on campus and in the city. She has written policy for the Responsible Endowment Project and demonstrated key leadership in a student-led campaign to reform financial aid at Yale. Last summer, through a Dwight Hall Fellowship, Ms. Eidelson developed and led the Community Voter Project, registering voters in low-turnout New Haven neighborhoods and bringing neighborhood leaders forward to make change in their communities. Ms. Eidelson also played a major role in bringing over 100 students to March 30^ths We Are One rally, a march on City Hall that brought together 3,000 youth, elderly, public- and private- sector workers, unemployed, clergy and students to rally for an accountable city government and a united New Haven.

I'm running because I want to live in a New Haven where government works for all the people who live here, and Im staying here because I know that it's possible," Ms. Eidelson said in an interview Sunday. This reflection and expression will help ensure your group's longevity and make future leadership transitions as seamless as possible in keeping with a sustainable Dwight Hall group.

There is no due date, but if you submit later than late October or early November, your group may not be approved until the next school year.  In any case, your group will remain in the new membership process for a maximum of one year from when you submit the application, but we reserve the right to admit or deny your group to Dwight Hall at any time in that year.

"Novels With a Social Conscience" will be in its fourth semester at NYU. My name is Ben Lash and I am the 2011 coordinator for Summer Buds, a summer reading program for New Haven 2nd, 3rd, and 4th graders. Summer Buds is a program that pairs a Yale student or "Big" that's you with a New Haven student, or "Little" a New Haven middle school student in need of mentor, teacher, and friend.

That's where you come in.  As a Big, you teach your Little to read and to love reading.  The group is also a wonderful summer community. We go on field trips, play group games, and hold adult-only events for volunteer bonding. 

If you want to do a little community service while you're here over the summer, being a Summer Buds tutor is a wonderful opportunity. Littles generally begin Summer Buds as middle-of-the-road students, but, with your help, improve considerably over the course of the summer.   

The program meets at the Slifka Center during June and July, on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m., a time slot that works well with most research positions and other activities people do on campus during those months. We will also have a get to know you pizza party on Wednesday, June 1.
