Last year's tour to the Dominican Republic was a phenomenal experience- a truly unique collaboration between Yale and the world. I am extremely excited to meet the alumni from last year as well as make new friends in Monterrey in a mutual effort to aid a community in extreme need.

Thus, we are asking alumni for proposals and news about your activites that incorporate the need for volunteers to promote public interest and social justice initiatives in the area. In addition to helping promote awareness of the many independent efforts of local alums, we help, support and manage selected projects each month.

Our goal is to focus on monthly projects that enable YAAMNY members, friends and families to volunteer in a range of activities from the laborious to more intellectually stimulating.

Please contact volunteering@yaamny.net for additional information or to get involved. Interested alumni should also post projects on: http://yaamny.net/volunteering. The committee will convene monthly.

Apply to be a 2011 Dwight Hall Summer Fellow!

Initiated in 1968, the Dwight Hall Summer Fellowship Program is an eight-week, paid program for five Yale undergraduates who propose projects designed to address community needs. Fellows typically work with established non-profit organizations or civic groups to craft and execute their projects. During the summer Fellows gather for weekly lunches or dinners to meet with community leaders, discuss the broader context of their work, and reflect on the progress of their proposed goals.
Since its inception nearly 40 years ago, this innovative program has sponsored projects that have had a significant impact on the New Haven and Dwight Hall communities. Columbus House, Fair Haven Community Health Center, the Community Soup Kitchen, the New Haven Halfway House, Marrakech, Inc., and Unity House all began as Summer Fellowship projects.

The goals of the Summer Fellowship program are:

• To develop collaborative relationships with existing non-profits and civic leaders to address such needs; and
• To provide a forum for students to reflect on the nature and quality of their work with other student leaders ...
