YAAMNY Public Service Committee and CREATIVE ARTS WORKSHOP 4 KIDS

Join CAW4KIDS and spent a Saturday afternoon engaged in a creative workshop for children ages 5-10.  The workshops are designed to build social skills, enable self expression and provide a safe and peaceful play-time for kids.  We are seeking 10 volunteers for the day between the hours of 11:30am and 3:30pm.  Meals will not be provided during the event.  The volunteers will serve as mentors during an instructor-led class.  There will be 1 mentor for every 3 kids.  The day begins with preparation and a general gathering of volunteers and the kids.  Story-time begins and each mentor will assist the children with reading a story.  Later the mentor will work with the children as they create an art project in response to the reading.  At the end of the event the art work will be on display for participants and volunteers to view.  This is a family friendly event.

 

YAAMNY Explore New York: Cherry Blossoms in Brooklyn

Meet fellow alumni while enjoying the festivities of the Japanese cherry blossom festival, or just strolling among the enchanting blossoms and marvelous gardens. Meet the group at the Taiko Drumming performance at 12pm, we will be holding a sign! The performance is at the Cherry Esplanade Stage - be sure to pick up a map on your way in!

Photojournalist & Yale Alumna Scout Tufankjian '00 - "Yes We Can" Book Event

The YAAMNY Educational Programs Committee, in collaboration with the Arts and Entertainment Committee, is pleased to announce. . .

an afternoon presentation at powerHouse Arena in DUMBO, Brooklyn with photojournalist and Yale alumna Scout Tufankjian '00.

Scout's book Yes We Can: Barack Obama's History-Making Presidential Campaign is the story of Obama's historic journey from junior Senator to President of the United States. Scout was the only photographer to cover his entire nearly two-year campaign. USA Today praised "Tufankjian's arresting, often moving images." Popular Photography wrote: ". . . the quality of Tufankjian's images alone makes it a worthy photo book. The photojournalist followed Obama's campaign from its unofficial beginning to its victorious end, capturing striking, candid moments throughout."

On this day, thousands of Yale Alumni, family members and friends will gather to volunteer for meaningful events and projects stemming from the laborious (sprucing up parks, planting gardens & painting) to the more intellectually stimulating (reading books to children, assisting with job applications & college applications) throughout the New York City Area as well as around the globe.

As an additional incentive, there will be prizes for several lucky volunteers whose names are drawn by activity leaders on May 16. Prizes include:
