Yale is part of the International Alliance of Research Universities (IARU) and member schools are beginning to plan events in the NYC area. Come to the reception at the Yale Club on June 9 to hear more about these activities. Thanks to everyone who volunteered for the Yale Day of Service. About 600 alumni, friends and family participated in 30+ available activities!  An extra big thanks to Andrew Burgie, Amanda Taffy, and Karin Weiner, co-chairs of YAAMNY's Public Service and Social Justice Committee, and all the site coordinators for their leadership.

A Special Evening with Author Mark Oppenheimer

YAAMNY extends an invitation to Yale alumni to hear from Mark Oppenheimer at Congregation Beth Elohim in Park Slope, Brooklyn. Mr. Oppenheimer writes the "Beliefs" column about religion for the New York Times (and who once profiled Rabbi Andy Bachman for New York Magazine), is the author of Wisenheimer, a new memoir about his years in the nerdy subculture of competitive debate. He has spoken before at Congregation Beth Elohim about his last book, Thirteen and a Day: The Bar and Bat Mitzvah Across America. He holds a Ph.D. in religion from Yale and also writes for Slate.com, The New York Times Magazine, and Mother Jones. He is a frequent commentator on NPR, and he lives in New Haven with his wife, daughters, and dog.

International Alliance of Research Universities Wine and Cheese Reception

Join alumni from the International Alliance of Research Universities for a reception of regional wines and cheeses and help form the first international, multi-university alumni association.

IARU is a unique cooperative of ten leading research-intensive universities: the Australian National University, University of Cambridge, University of Oxford, University of California, Berkeley, Yale University, Peking University, the National University of Singapore, the University of Tokyo, the University of Copenhagen, and ETH Zurich.

Join fellow members and alumni in the Tap Room for a reception that highlights the regional wines and cheeses from the countries represented, the chance to meet alumni from these universities and become part of the network of international alumni.

Ivy League Alumni Speed Dating

Where else can you get up to 15 mini dates with other Ivy League alums (Yale SOM and other graduate schools, Princeton, Columbia, Bocconi Business School and others) all in one afternoon and a clear indication of whether or not the person you met might be interested the very next day? This speed dating event is being held in a chic private lounge reserved solely for you; it is organized by a professional with over 7 years of experience in the industry. Women ages 32-45 and men ages 33-47 are invited to participate. There will be complimentary hors d'oeuvres and a special door prize to be awarded to participants selected in a random drawing. You are encouraged to check out the venue prior to the event. Dress code is business casual, no sneakers or jeans.

Catch up with old friends and meet new ones at the 5th Annual LGBTQ All-Ivy & Friends Post-Pride Mixer at the Yale Club of NYC, on the Tuesday after the Gay Pride Parade in Manhattan.  Enjoy an open bar of beer, wine soda and juice -- and a bounteous buffet of hors d'oeuvres (including a 3' tall chocolate fondue fountain) -- while you mingle.  Lots of good food here.
