The Yale Alumni Association of Metropolitan New York extends an invitation to Yale alumni to hear from Mark Oppenheimer at Congregation Beth Elohim in Park Slope, Brooklyn. Mr. Oppenheimer writes the "Beliefs" column about religion for the New York Times (and who once profiled Rabbi Andy Bachman for New York Magazine), is the author of Wisenheimer, a new memoir about his years in the nerdy subculture of competitive debate. He has spoken before at Congregation Beth Elohim about his last book, Thirteen and a Day: The Bar and Bat Mitzvah Across America. He holds a Ph.D. in religion from Yale and also writes for, The New York Times Magazine, and Mother Jones. He is a frequent commentator on NPR, and he lives in New Haven with his wife, daughters, and dog.
