Ned challenged career politician Joe Lieberman, surprised the nation by unseating him for the Democratic candidacy but lost the race. The campaign had several SOM alums in key positions who led energetic grassroots and netroots effort. The Republicans claim that anti-war Democrats looked “weak” to voters and that Lamont alienated a “pro-war center”. The Democrats accused him of being a one-issue candidate.
