The Public Service/Social Justice Committee of the YALE ALUMNI ASSOCIATION OF METROPOLITAN NEW YORK is proud to call on volunteers to help out approximately 750 fellow New Yorkers that seek a warm meal and other assistance from this soup kitchen.  Volunteers will put meals on trays, hand out coffee & water, clean trays and distribute clothes.  At 3:00, volunteers will clean the tables & chairs and sweep the floors.

Volunteers should wear comfortable clothes, like a t-shirt and jeans, as well as closed shoes and a cap (otherwise, you will need to wear a hairnet).   Also, be proud to wear YALE logo attire!

Children 14 and older may volunteer with a parent/guardian.

Your help is greatly needed, especially during this challenging time.  Following the event, volunteers will  unwind at Heartland Brewery in Union Square (35 Union Square).  We look forward to seeing you.

DWIGHT HALL HOSTS COMMUNITY SING OCT. 23

All are welcome to enjoy free hot apple cider, music from many traditions, and a chance to celebrate and promote service and justice work in New Haven.

The event is free and open to the public and will be facilitated by Micah Hendler, a Yale undergraduate who spent the summer studying traditional music in Senegal. Hendler will teach participants four to five simple songs from around the world. Following this, guests are invited to linger over cider. No musical experience is necessary, said Mari Oye, a Yale student helping to organize the event. Just enthusiasm and a desire for fellowship.

Dwight Hall hopes to make Community Sings a regular event, and encourages donations to benefit Shelter Now! a campaign dedicated to reopening the New Haven Overflow Shelter.
