The Yale Club of New Haven, Inc. was founded in 1909, intending ". . .to bring Yale men together in the hope that at one or more meetings a year the enthusiasm of its members for Yale will be renewed and stimulated." Now fully coeducational, the Club is open to all persons who support Yale's educational and community service objectives.
Scholarship assistance has been a part of the Club's service since 1916; the permanent endowmentwas begun in 1944. The striking generosity of Club members and the community has been magnified by prudent fiscal management by several generations of leadership.
This past year, the Yale Club of New Haven awarded over $160,000 in scholarships; $127,000 to undergraduates, $32,000 to graduate and professional school students, and $2,000 for Eli Whitney Scholars program. Additionally, we provided over $9,600 to fund three undergraduate summer internships here in New Haven. The 2005 scholarship awards brochure can be viewed here
The Club annually presents the Yale Book Award to rising seniors and their school libraries from more than 35 high schools in our region. Volunteer members of the Alumni Schools Committee interview hundreds of local applicants and help to convince "the best and the brightest" that Yale really is the place for them.
