New York Philomusica Chamber Ensemble presents The String Quartet as Exposition and Conclusion, featuring Ju-Young Baek and Jesse Mills, violins; Junah Chung, viola; and Gregory Hesselink, ’cello. The program will include Franz Schubert’s String Quartet No. 15 in G, Michael Berkeley’s Quartet Study, and Benjamin Britten’s String Quartet No. 3, Op. 94. These are the last great works of Schubert and Britten, a testament to the importance of the string quartet as a vehicle of the deepest expression. There will be a pre-concert Meet-the-Artists talk with composer Michael Berkeley at 7:30, and a post-concert reception. See http://www.nyphilomusica.org for more information. A couple of Yalies have worked and continue to help out with the admin side of this ensemble, including myself and Laura Bernardy (also CC '01). The ensemble is 33 years old and one of the best in the city at what it does. Hope to see you there.
