Brooklyn Greenway Initiative seeks volunteers to help plant 600 native grass plants at this native plant restoration site near the Brooklyn Navy Yard. The site is being restored in conjunction with the installation of the interim route for the Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway on Kent Avenue & Williamsburg Street. It is physical work, but fun and satisfying because it will transform the experience of this area fro interim greenway users. Bring gloves, sturdy shoes and lunch if you want. We'll provide water, bananas and GORP (good old raisins and peanuts) to keep you going. You will also receive a free Users Guide to the Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway, a waterproof and sweatproof pocket map that shows the planned and interim routes that you can explore.

The Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway is a project to implement a 14-mile long greenway from Greenpoint to Bay Ridge Brooklyn where it will connect to existing  greenways around Brooklyn's waterfront that stretch nearly to Kennedy Airport. The greenway will include separate paths for bikes and pedestrians and continuous landscaping in most locations. The project is a commnity based initiative that the City has committed to build.
