The WHO estimates that ~10 million people die each year because they do not have access to existing medicines. While this is a huge and complex problem, students can make an impact by asking our university to make a change.
Universities are increasingly important sources of important medicines, for example, over a third of HIV drugs introduced between 2002 and 2006 involve a university patent. American universities heavily dominate the top-twenty list of biotech patenting organizations.
University action has the potential to make an enormous impact on global health by making sure that drugs developed at universities are accessible in developing countries.
There are two great ways to involved:
1) Sign the petition
2) Come to a meeting! email
