BITTER HARVEST: DEFENDING COMMUNITIES IN NICARAGUA

Kristen will speak about progress in negotiations being mediated by
the Compliance Advisor Ombudsman of the International Finance
Corporation between Nicaragua Sugar Estates Limited and ASOCHIVIDA, an
association of ex-sugarcane workers. Since 2007, Kristen, as CIEL's
representative, and two students from Yale's School of Forestry and
Environmental Studies have provided support and legal counsel to
ASOCHIVIDA in their efforts to secure medical care and other benefits.
