Racing to the Top: Education Reform in New Haven and Connecticut

Do you care deeply about public education? Are you concerned about the achievement gap between low-income students and their affluent peers? Are you sure that we need better schools, but uncertain how you can help?

Please join the Yale College Democrats and students from across Yale's campus on Thursday, February 25 from 6:00 PM to 6:45 in the Dwight Hall Chapel as we gather to show our support for New Haven's public schools and explore ways to create school change statewide.

The event will include:

  • Mayor John Destefano Jr., who will speak about New Haven's ongoing School Change Campaign, which Arne Duncan (the Obama administration's Secretary of Education) has repeatedly praised as a model for other school districts to follow in pursuing school reform.
  • Performances by members of WORD as well New Haven public school students.
  • Opportunities to take action. Find out how you can be an advocate for better schools throughout the state of Connecticut. As Connecticut competes for federal Race to the Top funding, now is the time for the legislature to embrace substantive education reform. Whether you only have a few minutes or you're willing to become more involved, you have the opportunity to act directly to effect change.

RSVP to the Facebook event here, and feel free to invite your friends.
