Dr. Heimer has made scientific investigations of the morality and morbidity associated with injection drug use (syringe exchange programs, HIV survival in syringes, hepatitis B vaccination, hepatitis C transmission risks, overdose prevention and resuscitation, pharmacological treatment of opiate addiction). He is the Director of the Interdisciplinary Research Methods Core at Yales Center for Interdisciplinary Research on AIDS, and Director of the Yale office of CT Emerging Infections Program
