Grateful. Disgusted. Proud. Embarrassed. The Yale Alumni Magazines recent cover story Why They Call Yale The Gay Ivy sparked a furor among its readers. Out of this vehement and diverse alumni response was born The Gay Ivy, a musical theater piece: Roommates reminisce about their parallel yet isolated lives fifty years ago; two women wake up in each others arms; one of the first Africa-American alumnae confesses her own struggle to embrace her sons lifestyle; a legacy-student confronts his grandfathers hatred and his own conflicted sexual identity. By giving voice to disparate perspectives on the Alumni Magazines controversial article, this piece explores the Yale community as a microcosm of our country today.
