We will spend the night sleeping outside on Old Campus, in solidarity with those who do not have homes of their own, and in the excellent company of each other. YHHAP will provide tents for sleeping, entertainment for grooving, and pancakes in the morning for eating; participants will support Shelter Now through monetary donations, and by raising awareness of the issue of homelessness in New Haven. THE NITTY-GRITTY
THE FESTIVITIES
THE CAUSE Shelter Now is a student-run campaign that raises political awareness and money to make sure that every resident of New Haven is provided shelter in the winter. Shelter Now began in the fall of 2008 in response to the closing of the Cedar St. Overflow Shelter, leaving 125 men without a place to stay at night. Since that time we, along with community partners, have mobilized to raise over $70,000 in two years. This semester, we hope to raise at least $25,000 to alleviate additional cuts to homeless shelters in the city. The Sleepout is our biggest fundraising event, and by participating, you will make a real difference in shelter services for homeless individuals.
