Join us for a panel about the role that conflict minerals from the Democratic Republic of Congo play in the electronics we use every day. The minerals trade directly finances armed groups responsible for committing atrocities in eastern Congo. Electronics companies use these conflict minerals to produce cell phones, laptops, iPods, and cameras. The panel will address the significance of accountability and corporate transparency in the electronics sector and the next policy steps needed to tackle to the use of conflict minerals. Featuring: Peter Rosenblum - Professor of Law at Columbia University Toby Whitney - Legislative Director for U.S. Congressman Jim McDermott Steven Hege - Member of the UN Group of Experts on the Congo Moderated by: Jason Stearns - Yale University and author of "Congo Siasa" blog
