Join Neighborhood Housing Services and work alongside young adults from New Haven. The goal of the program is to empower and educate future community leaders. In order to accomplish this, we have enlisted the help of current community leaders, public speakers, politicians, businesspeople, and other experts. They will offer their knowledge and expertise to program participants in evening seminars, organized by topic (see below). These five topics are crucial areas for the development of skills that will help turn participants into effective, distinguished leaders. Classes will be organized in a way that best helps the participants to acquire these skills, which includes brief lectures, discussion, and related activities.

More information and on-line registration is to be found on our web site www.nhsofnewhaven.org.  Classes will be held on Mondays from 4:00pm to 6:30pm throughout February and March. These classes will be held at our lab at 333 Sherman Avenue.  We also have a field trip planned to the CT Rock Climbing Gym on #91 Shelton Avenue in Newhallville on February 23rd.  There is no cost for the program but it is expected that people commit to at least five of the six classes.  This is a great opportunity for Yale students to sit side by side, and work side by side, with New Haven residents and co-learn with each other and with an excellent set of facilitators.

Neighborhood Housing Services of New Haven is a non-profit community development organization, located in the Dixwell neighborhood. Part housing developer, part homeowner education and assistance provider, part community organizing, NHS goal is to strengthen New Havens neighborhoods by increasing homeownership rates. Theyve been around for 31 years now, and they are one of the first groups to perform historical home gutting and rehabilitation in this city. More information on who they are can be found on their site www.nhsofnewhaven.org
