Dear community-service minded folks,

IRIS is New Haven County's refugee resettlement agency.  Our mission is to help refugees and other displaced people establish new lives, regain hope, and contribute to the vitality of Connecticut's communities.  Since refugees come to this country and are immediately thrown into poverty, we have diverse services to help refugees thrive during their first months and years in the US.  One particular service is our weekly food pantry service.  Each week's food pantry service is essential to many of the newly arrived refugee families, and many could not afford to feed their families without it.  To help the families as much as possible, we have been bring increasing amounts of food to the IRIS office to distribute to our clients.

We are looking for motivated volunteers to help us continue to meet the needs of refugees.  On Tuesday afternoons, the mighty task of hauling over 2000 pounds of food up the stairs has become more and more difficult for just a couple volunteers to take one.  We would love to have more volunteers helping IRIS on Tuesday afternoons from 2:15-3:45pm.  This is a great opportunity to get a great workout (free!) and simultaneously give back to the community.

Please let me know if you are interested in helping!  My email address is This email address is hidden from email harvesters via JavaScript , and I'd be happy to give you bus directions to get to the IRIS office.

Best wishes!
~Margaret
