On March 30, 2006, New York Philomusica presents author Kurt Vonnegut's acclaimed new text for Igor Stravinsky's classic chamber work "L'Histoire du soldat," featuring original cast members, Broadway and TV stars Jim Bracchitta and Martin Vidnovic. The work is a humorous but sharply biting commentary on the perils of war, written in Vonnegut's unmistakable style, and based in World War II but just as relevant, if not more so, to our situation today. The new text was commissioned and premiered in 1993 but has not been heard in almost a decade due to copyright disputes. This event marks the historic re-introduction of the piece to the world stage. The piece will be preceded by improvised jazz from some of New York’s finest jazz musicians.
