===Workshop #1: Campaign Planning=== Workshop Leader: David Karpf, Sierra Club Board Member David Karpf has a long history of leading environmental campaigns and also of training others to plan effective advocacy campaigns through his work in the Sierra Student Coalition and now as the youngest board member of the nation's oldest and largest environmental organization, the Sierra Club. He will present the Sierra Club's model for planning and executing a campaign and answer questions about particular campaign challenges brought up by participants in the workshop. ===Workshop #2: Grant and Proposal Writing=== Workshop Leader: James Farnam, Holt, Wexler & Farnam, LLP James Farnam's practice is focused on community development, workforce development, and human services policy and programs. He has played a central role in building his firm's resource development practice through a number of major funding proposals, including the Elm Haven HOPE VI proposal, the New Haven Enterprise Community and Empowerment Zone Strategic Plan, and over 20 other HUD proposals. In this workshop, he will provide guidance on the task of writing a funding proposal that captures the work that your organization does or plans to do. ===Workshop #3: Publicity and Marketing=== Workshop Leader: Colleen Shaddox, Quicksilver Communication, Inc. Colleen Shaddox is an award-winning journalist, her work has appeared in The New York Times, the Hartford Courant, Connecticut magazine and American Journalism Review. Her media-relations work includes favorable placements for clients in USA Today and on public radio and ABC News. She will present a case study of message framing for a campaign to promote juvenile justice reform and discuss the publicity challenges faced by participants in the workshop. ===Workshop #4: New Haven Schools=== Workshop leader: Diana Mosca, Public School Interns Coordinator Learn how groups can become involved in the New Haven schools and what the Dwight Hall Public School Interns can do to support this work. Learn about the various schools in the New Haven school district, their demographics, tests scores, and other important information. Discuss important elements of successful school programs and how we can better achieve our goals.
