The Unofficial NY Yale Cabaret (UNYYC), made up of alumni from 2001 all the way back to 1969, was created to showcase the talents of Yale School of Drama graduates and their collaborators in New York City. In its inaugural year, it has presented an ambitious slate of four productions, one world premiere, one US premiere, and one NY Premiere. It has been featured nationally and internationally in media from the New York Times to the Malaysian Star, and in December received the distinction of one of NYTheatre.com's "People of the Year" for its exciting contributions to the New York Theatre scene. Many of its productions have topped the NYTheatre.com Top Ten Picks list of productions to see in all of NY, including Broadway and Off Broadway shows, have been TimeOutNY and Backstage's picks of the week.
Proposals for next season are currently being accepted and are open to all Yale School of Drama alumni. Graduates of other schools at Yale who want to join the fun are encouraged to participate and may email Heidi at

Currently on the boards is Fringe 2004 Hit Valiant. It is not as commercial as our last production, but a very important and conversation-starting piece. Please come and show your support for challenging pieces of theatre such as this one, and come experience the Cabaret!
Arriving just in time for Women's History Month, this stirring account of women's experience of war from around the world was a sold out hit at the 2004 NYC International Fringe Festival. It won a Best of Fringe award for Lanna Joffrey's performance, was listed on numerous "Best of Fringe" lists and was New York Magazine's "Pick of the Week". Among other places, Valiant has performed at the Imagine Festival of Arts Issues and Ideas and most recently was invited to perform at the United Nations as part of the Celebration for the Committee on the Status of Women.
Adapted by Lanna Joffrey from Sally Hayton-Keeva's book Valiant Women in War and Exile. Directed by Tamilla Woodard, Valiant is a multi-media docudrama featuring thirteen women's word-for-word accounts of their courageous, devastating and sometimes humorous experiences of war. From victim to perpetrator to peacemaker, these women from all over the world have fought, struggled and survived. Their stories are chronicled in this eye-opening and heartbreaking show.
"Stark and quietly riveting. One of the shows to see at the 2004 New York International Fringe Festival." -- New York Magazine
"Powerfully yet simply recounted. As these women from diverse cultures and economic classes recite a brutal litany of humiliations, the nightmare history of twentieth-century inhumanity is resurrected." -- NYTheatre.com
