Dear fellow Yalie, 

My name is Aaron Shipp (BR96) and I am a member of the board of directors of the Yale Alumni Association of Metropolitan New York (YAAMNY), which serves all Yale alumni in New York City. First off, let me say: I AM NOT GOING TO ASK YOU FOR MONEY! So feel free to keep reading without worry that I am yet another Yalie trying to hit you up for cash. The only thing that I do ask is that you read this letter, give it some consideration and maybe ten minutes beyond that.

The Association of Yale Alumni (AYA) has rolled out a new strategic plan to engage, encourage and support the desire of Yale alumni to stay connected to one another in meaningful and impactful ways through various alumni groups. To that end, AYA is partnering with YAAMNY to figure out how this organization may best serve NYC alums. All 14,000+ of you. We, the YAAMNY board of directors, hope to create a robust and dynamic organization that unites us in the spirit of community, the spirit of friendship and all of those intangible qualities that brought us to New Haven in the beginning. Now, the question is: how are we going to do this?

This is where you, yes you, come in.

We want to know what you imagine a NYC-based alumni association could or should be: what it looks like, sounds like, feels like. We want to know your current attitudes and opinions about YAAMNY, if you have any (but who are we kidding, we Yalies we have opinions about everything).

We have created an anonymous survey designed to gather your thoughts and feelings about YAAMNY. Please take ten minutes of your time to fill it out to help us create a clearer vision and an authentic mission for YAAMNY. There are many changes afoot and we want you to be a part.
