Three Rowers on rowboat on the riverROCKING MANHATTAN - Regatta & Barbecue Party. Our team leader John Joseph Hopkins '05, former captain of the Yale Crew Team, will lead a crew of Yale Alumni boats for a day long rowing adventure around the island of Manhattan. Come and help Team Yale row to victory! Rowers will compete to benefit a great organization, Rocking the Boat, in collaboration with the Downtown Community Boathouse.

The day will culminate in a fabulous and fun filled afternoon Barbecue Party at Pier 40 (Houston Street and the Hudson River) with great food and drinks, terrific educational activities for kids and adults to learn about boat building, river life, and all things aquatic, and short boat rides on hand built wooden rowboats. To attend the tailgating party, we are asking for contributions in the form of a pledge donation to sponsor either a Yale boat or rower, all proceeds to benefit Rocking the Boat.

We are looking for volunteers to help run this event, as well as rowers for the regatta, and participants/donors to come and join the fun. The day has several segments as follows:
Morning Shift 8 AM to 10 AM: (Hallet's Cove, East River, Long Island City, Queens) Looking for eight volunteers to help serve breakfast to the rowers
Lunch Shift 11 AM to 1 PM:(At Swindlers Cove, Harlem River) Ten volunteers are needed to help serve lunch to the rowers.
Afternoon Barbeque Party, 3 to 6 PM: At Pier 40, Houston Street & Hudson River, downtown Manhattan: Twenty volunteers are needed to help organize and run the party, which will be a spectacular event for the whole family.

We are also looking for ROWERS to compete for Team Yale in hand-built wooden rowboats around Manhattan. The row is 26 miles and will be split into two shifts: a morning 5 hour shift and a 3 hour afternoon shift. Previous rowing experience is NOT required, but you would need to be reasonably fit. You will need to attend a rowing orientation prior to the event which will be on a weekday evening.

This will be a fun event for the whole family - you can volunteer, row, or just come to cheer on the Yale rowers. The Educational Programs and Arts & Entertainment Committees of the Yale Alumni Association of Metropolitan New York (YAAMNY), in collaboration with the 6BC Botanical Garden, present an afternoon out of doors concert by violinist Qi Cao of the Yale School of Music on Sunday. Qi Cao will present a series of pieces on aspects of love from friendship to patriotism to amorous encounters to spiritual love scored by the greatest composers of musical history.

Attendees will be encouraged to enjoy the garden and partake in the music from any area of the garden. Pre-registration is required. Due to the intimate scale of this gorgeous space, tickets are very limited. This concert will continue rain or shine. In the event of inclement weather, Qi will perform at the black box theater not far from 6BC at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program, at 113-A 2nd Avenue, between 6th and 7th Streets.

Qi Cao is a second year master's student at the Yale School of Music, studying with Hyo Kang. She was the winner of the senior violin category and the overall grand prize winner in CT- American Strings Teaching Association Music Competition and the first prize winner of the artist category in the National Piano and Violin Competition in Singapore. In the Gisborne music Competition in New Zealand, she was awarded a special prize, "International String Player Award". In July 2007, at the Kennedy Center/National Symphony Orchestra Summer Institute in Washington D.C, she won the Concerto Competition and performed Paganini's Violin Concerto No.1 with the SMI Orchestra at the Kennedy Center. The Public Service/Social Justice Committee of the Yale Alumni Association of Metropolitan New York is proud to join the Prospect Park Volunteer Corps in their 28th Annual Halloween Haunted Walk & Carnival. We are looking for Carnival Game Leaders to assist Prospect Park staff as they run the Carnival Games and hand out candy to all the children an the end of each game as well as other related activities such as face painting for the children.

The shifts are as follows:
Volunteer Shift A: 11:30 AM - 1:30 PM
Volunteer Shift B: 1:30 PM - 3:30 PM
